Bio: Cathy Chute is executive director of Harvard's Institute for Applied Computational Science, home of master’s degree programs and a center for inter-disciplinary work at the intersection of applied math and computer science, incorporating data science. She is responsible for industry outreach and collaboration and general management of the institute. She also teaches a business elective course on media management and marketing, including data analytics and data visualization, at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education. In addition to her responsibilities for the master’s programs at Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, she is also assistant dean for professional programs, a new area of development for the school, where she is currently developing new educational programs with partners at Harvard University and also with educational technology organizations. Earlier, she moderated online case discussions in leadership training for Harvard Business School Publishing for several years.
Previously, she was publisher of Harvard Magazine, an independent non-profit supported by advertising and contributions. She also established search engine marketing, social media marketing, and digital products for Harvard Magazine, and also directed development efforts. Earlier in her career, Cathy was a director of business development for The New York Times Company and a marketing manager in advertising sales and newspaper circulation. She has an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
